Fourth parade, more in Sharon; history, fireworks, flags in Cobleskill

6/29/2016

Schoharie County will celebrate the Fourth of July with a parade, fireworks, fun and more, beginning Saturday in Cobleskill.
Cobleskill's Family Fun Day will kick off at 1pm Saturday at the Fairgrounds with food, live music, vendors, games and events for kids, wrapping up with fireworks at dark.
All day Family Fun admission is by $10 wristband.
Monday, the 4th, the celebration will move to Sharon, where the Sharon Springs Chamber of commerce is sponsoring a parade, with the theme "America the Beautiful," beginning at 10am.
Lineup for the parade will be at Dairyland.
Marchers, floats, and others will travel west of Route 10 to Chestnut Street, and then to the Sharon Springs Central School Athletic Fields.
From about 9:30am-10:45am, both sides of Route 20 will be closed for the parade.
A detour route will be provided, but spectators and participants should arrive early to avoid the road closure.
Following the parade, at 11:30am, there will be food, music by The American Longboards, and a kids' carnival in Chalybeate Park.
Back in Cobleskill, there will also be an 18th century living history event in Veterans' Memorial Park from 10am-1pm Monday.
There will be a reading of the Declaration of Independence and other selected documents beginning at 11am, along with audience participation activities, and a flag display and ceremony.
The event is free; bring lawn seating.
There will also be other musical and living history events at other sites throughout the county over the long weekend.
