Catholic Charities sends Zehrfuhs Sky High

Linda Quinn was a big winner Monday, but Pastor Steffen Zehrfuhs may have had the most fun.
Ms. Quinn, of Middleburgh, won $1,000 in Catholic Charities of Schoharie County’s Sky High Jackpot at the Cobleskill Golf and Country Club.
Pastor Zehrfuhs had the opportunity to ride in a helicopter to dump the golf balls, but not before there was a bit of worrying about the unsettled weather.
The Sky High Jackpot is one of Catholic Charities’ most successful fundraisers. Catholic Charities sells numbered golf balls for a chance to win $1,000, and the balls are dropped from a helicopter onto a makeshift green near the clubhouse.
On Monday, however, thunderstorms delayed the takeoff, and lightning flashed miles away as pilot Dave Kilcullen and Pastor Zehrfuhs prepared to go aloft. But Mr. Kilcullen figured he had a window in the weather and gave Pastor Zehrfuhs a smooth ride for the delivery.
No final tally was available for the fundraiser.
