2/17/2010

SUNY Cobleskill’s Woodsmen club will host the second annual intercollegiate Woodsmen’s Competition on Saturday, February 27, from 9am-4pm.
The event, to be held at SUNY Cobleskill’s ski lodge, features students throwing axes, tossing wood and working with chainsaws, and highlighting old-fashioned logging techniques.
The competition will include participants from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, Paul Smith’s College and Finger Lakes Community College. Nathan “Bucket” Waterfield, a professional STIHL timber sportsman, will judge the men’s, women’s and coed teams throughout the competition, and also conduct a demonstration during the lunch hour.
The event is sponsored by the SUNY Cobleskill Woodsman’s Club, the Office of Student Life and College and Community Relations, the Office of Student Development and Collegiate Life, Timberwork Tree and Stone and Kelley’s Farm and Garden.
A barbecue lunch will be available for purchase by spectators. Main event parking will be at the Ski Lodge; overflow parking will be at the Cobleskill-Richmondville School District’s bus garage on Route 10 with a shuttle service provided to the competition.
