By Jim Poole |
The Cobleskill-Richmondville School Board took the formal step towards the proposed $12.5 million building project Monday night.
Board members officially approved the proposition that will go to voters December 11.
Since being proposed earlier this school year, the project’s remained unchanged, consisting of repairs and improvements to C-R’s four schools.
There would be no new buildings.
Mr. Sickles said state aid would be favorable for the project and that it would have no impact on the tax levy. He also believed C-R would not have to use funds from its Capital Construction Reserve.
The district would be taking on debt, he added, but would also be taking other debt off the books.
The project includes work that was deferred from an earlier building project because bids came in too high.
If bids again come in too high for this project, officials will consider their options then, Mr. Sickles said.
Proposed work includes:
Ryder School: Replace playground equipment and fencing, remove the chimney, replace a Ryder-Golding roof and repair a Ryder-Golding exterior wall.
Radez School: Improve cooling andventilation, renovate the nurse’s office, renovate the former girls’ locker room for a phys ed office and storage, replace and add playground equipment, replace an underground fuel tank and replace curtain rigging, and lighting on the stage.
Golding School: Reconstruct exterior stairs and ramps and sidewalks and repair or replace the façade, masonry and windows.
High School: Replace door sets and windows at entries, reconstruct sidewalks, improve heating, ventilation and air conditioning; replace fire pump, repair or replace parts of the façade and install eight electric bus charging stations.
There will be a public hearing in early December before the public vote on the 11th.
