Fulton gets ready to move into new highway garage

It’s been a long time coming, but the Town of Fulton is getting ready to move into its new highway garage.
Built with $4 million from New York Rising monies after Hurricane Irene, construction on the six-bay garage, located just down Bear Ladder Road from the town hall, began just last year.
Once the move’s completed in the next week or so, the town’s assessor and clerk will also temporarily move into the space while the 50-year-old town hall gets a new roof.
“It’s a very nice complex and a very nice facility,” said Councilman Richard Mix Friday.
Already, the West Fulton Fire House has been upgraded with more room for beds as an emergency shelter, also with New York Rising funds; the new highway garage could also handle any overflow, Mr. Mix said.
“It’s also going to be a lot more energy efficient and we’re going to see savings there,” he said.
Getting the town garage built required too many meetings to count, said Supervisor Phil Skowfoe, and he thanked his town board for their work.
“We have a great town board and we all worked hard,” he said. “Everyone brought their own expertise and strengths to the table and this is what we have to show for it. We should all be proud. It’s going to be here for a long time.”
